Candle Magick
Candle magic is a very old and powerful form of sympathetic magic.
As we all know, any type of magic that is performed will return to you threefold, no matter if it is negative or positive magic. Always remember the Wiccan Rede ‘An ye harm none do what ye will’ when considering any kind of magic.
Keep in mind that magic affects the whole world around you, and be very careful what you ask for, because you might just get it. The words you use in any kind of magic must be thought through very carefully, be precise because mistakes cannot be rectified afterwards.
What type?
Any type of candle may be used for candle magic. As long as it has been cleansed and consecrated prior to use. Beeswax candles are more powerful (and unfortunately more expensive) because they are produced from nature. As with any other tool, the candle made by your hand for a specific purpose captures the energy of you at that time. Many experienced witches will only use candles they have crafted themselves for this exact reason.
Cleansing and Consecrating.
This is very important, especially for bought candles. Cleansing removes all negative energies that the candle has picked up along its journey. As with all your supplies-you don’t want psychic dirt hanging around.
Cover the candle(s) with salt and ask the Lord and Lady to bless it. Think about the words and write your own for the blessings.
Dressing candles
You can dress a candle with an oil to boost your magic. Use whatever oil you prefer or what a specific spell asks you to use.
To bring something to you, rub oil on the candle in a downward motion from the top to the middle, then from the bottom to the middle.
To send something away from you, rub oil from the middle of the candle out to the ends.
Never make a back and forth motion as this defeats the purpose of dressing.
Dab a spot of oil onto your third eye (centre of your forehead) and say:
“I ask the Lord and Lady to cleanse and consecrate this candle, may it burn with all strength and power in the service of the light”.
Then state your intention for the candle i.e. I ask that this candle be blessed with the power to heal Blessed be.
Inscribing or carving
If you inscribe/carve a candle, you should keep the tool used for this purpose only.
To draw something to you-write from the top to the middle and then from the bottom to the middle.
To repel things away from you-write from the middle to the ends.
Pink – Affection, romance, caring, nurturing, planetary good will.
Green – Element of Earth, physical healing, monetary success, mother Earth, tree and
plant magic, growth, personal goals.
Blue – Element of Water, wisdom, protection, good fortune, calm, opening blocked communication.
Silver – The Goddess, astral energy, telepathy, intuitions, dreams, clairvoyance, female energy
Purple – Third eye, psychic ability, to influence people in high places, hidden knowledge, spiritual power
Brown – Special favours, to influence friendships
White – The Goddess, higher self, purity, peace, substitutes any other colour, virginity
Black – Binding, shape shifting, repels negativity, protection
Yellow – Element of Air, intelligence, memory, the sun, logical imagination, to break mental blocks, to accelerate learning
Copper – Professional growth, career manoeuvres, passion, money goals, business fertility
Gold – The God, power of male, happiness, promote winning
Orange – General success, property details, justice, selling, legal matters
Red – Element of Fire, passion, strength, career goals, lust, survival, blood of the moon, fast action, driving force
There are many others but these are the main colours to focus on.
Don’t forget to cleanse and consecrate all candles before use.
